statement

An extremely exquisite reproduction approximates reality to the limit, yet it somehow differs from it ultimately. I believe the ability to create such extreme
reproductions is what the medium called photography essentially is.
The photographer manipulates their camera with their own, certain intentions in mind, but the process of reproduction itself works automatically in a purely optical and
mechanical way. The result (the image obtained) and the intentions always form a relation of mutual-interference, and that is exactly where the betrayal of
photography lies.
“Taking a picture” is an act where you relentlessly attempt to surpass mere documentation by operating the machine called a camera drawing thoroughly upon your
subjectivity called self. while fully acknowledging that your intentions are to be transcended by the objectivity of the camera.
My work speculates about photography’s ability for reproduction, functions of the reproduced image, and the structure of reproduction itself. That is the very form of
engagement between myself and photography.

極めて精巧な複製とは、非常に現実に近い、何か別ものであり、その極端なほどの複製能力こそが写真というメディアそのものではないか。
撮影者は思惑を持ってカメラを操作するが、複製自体は極めて光学的に、機械的に為される。
常に結果(獲得したイメージ)と思惑は干渉する関係にあり、そこにこそ写真の裏切りがある。
’撮る’ということは、カメラという機械が持つ客観性が、私の思惑を超えていくということを認めつつ、一方で、徹底的に私という主観性をもってカメラを操作することで、単なる記録を超えていこうとすることである。
写真の持つ複製能力、そして、複製されたものの機能、複製という構造自体についての考察こそが自分にとっての写真との関わり合いである。
